Brazilian Butt Lift

Brazilian Butt Lift

BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift or Buttock Augmentation)

The Brazilian Butt Lift is a two-part operation that utilizes liposuction and fat grafting to lift and augment the bottom. Areas that patients most frequently have suctioned include the upper abdomen, lower abdomen, flanks, inner thighs, outer thighs, and lower back. The fat that is suctioned from these areas is then fat grafted into the buttock region to achieve a plump and round appearance. The BBL procedure therefore allows us not only to augment the bottom, but also to slim the waist and create a curvier backside, both of which serve to accentuate the behind and create your ideal contour.

After a Brazilian Butt Lift, it is recommended that you refrain from sitting or laying on your bottom for at least two weeks. You will be fitted with a compression garment immediately after surgery that covers the areas where you received liposuction, and has openings for your bottom so the fat grafts are not compressed. It is recommended that you wear this garment for a few weeks after surgery. This will help maintain your new body contour.

Ideal Candidates For Brazilian Butt Lift

This procedure can be an excellent option for reshaping your figure and making you appear slimmer and more curvaceous, but, during your initial consultation, you should discuss with Dr. Sever whether it is the right buttock enlargement procedure for you.

You are an ideal candidate for the Brazilian Butt Lift if:

You have excess fat on your stomach, back, thighs, or other parts of the body
You have good blood flow to your buttock area
You are in good physical condition and good general health
You are a nonsmoker
You have realistic expectations.

On the other side, you may not be a good candidate for BBL surgery if:

you are overweight or underweight
you are pregnant or breastfeeding
you have certain medical conditions (blood clotting disorder, for example), or take certain medications (anti-inflammatory, antibiotics, blood thinners…) you are under 18 years old since your body is still developing you should not consider BBL if you have unrealistic expectations about the results.

Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery

The main principle of this procedure is removing the fat from other areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs. Fat taken from elsewhere in your body is injected into appropriate areas of your buttocks through small incisions, to create a firmer, plumper backside.

During the BBL procedure, the plastic surgeon makes a few small incisions in the buttock area to allow for the insertion of small tubes called cannulas. These cannulas are attached to a liposuction machine called tubing which will allow for the removal of fat in a sterile container. The fat that is removed is purified before transferring to the buttock.

The main fat donor sites include:

the backside or thighs
arms
the abdomen (stomach)
lower back.

Risks Following Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure

The Brazilian butt lift procedure is not without risk, but the risks are similar to those of other plastic surgery procedures – bruising, swelling, bleeding, pain and discomfort. This procedure can result in complications that require additional treatment or even more surgical procedures. However, most complications are minor and can be treated.

How to Prepare for a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Before your Brazilian Butt Lift you should:

Quit smoking for six to eight weeks, as this can complicate the recovery process
Plan to have a family member drive you home after the procedure
Do not eat or drink after midnight the day of your surgery
Bring the proper identification and paperwork to ensure there are no issues at check-in.

Can I Combine Other Procedures With the Brazilian Butt Lift?

Sometimes 360 liposuctıon is a good alternative to a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL). Often referred to as the “little sister” of the BBL, 360 lipo incorporates liposuction to all of the areas generally treated during a BBL (abdomen, flanks, waist, lower back, lateral thighs, medial thighs) without the extra step of purifying that fat and injecting it back into the buttocks. This procedure is particularly good for patients who already have a moderate amount of volume in the right distribution in their buttocks, but still want to accentuate this area. This is also a great procedure for those who may not be able to accommodate the activity restrictions necessary for a BBL. This procedure carries the added bonus of less time in surgery and less expense. Some of our patients choose to combine BBL with Mommy Makeover, Tummy Tuck, or Breast Augmentation procedure.

Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery

The postoperative journey is similar to any other plastic surgery procedure performed. When it comes to BBL, recovery time is different for every patient, and it mostly depends on the extent of your procedure and your goals.

Discomfort, Pain, Bruising, and Swelling

Discomfort, bruising, and swelling are present after the operation. For the first week or two after surgery, you’ll need to take it easy and rest. Avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting. It’s also important to avoid crossing your legs or placing pressure on your incision site while sitting.

To minimize swelling, the compression garment should be worn for several weeks after the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure.

Sitting and Sleeping On Your Buttocks After the BBL Surgery

Bear in mind – you will need to limit sitting during the first 10 days to avoid putting pressure on your buttocks. When sitting you should use the special buttock pillow to decrease the pressure applied to the buttocks. When sleeping try to lie on your stomach in the first few weeks.

Return To Work

You are able to return to work after a week or two, but you may need to take it easy for a few more weeks. When sitting during work you should sit for short periods of time and only when using a buttock pillow.

How Long Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery Last?

This procedure usually takes about 2 hours, but it may depend on the volume that needs to be added, and the amount of fat that is being injected.

Is BBL Surgery Performed Under General Anesthesia?

Brazilian Butt Lift is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, using general anesthesia, but some surgeons use local anesthesia.

Is This Procedure Painful?

Pain following the Brazilian Butt Lift is completely normal and manageable. You may need to take pain medication for a few days.

Are You Using Silicone Implants For This Procedure?

Unlike buttock silicone implants, which require the surgical insertion of foreign materials, the Brazilian Butt Lift only uses your own fat. This decreases the risk of rejection, scarring, and other adverse side effects that follow these silicone materials.

Will My Butt Lift Last?

If you want to nurture the size and shape of your new gluteal contour, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Exercise and eat healthy so that your body does not lose fat from other body areas. Try to keep your body weight as consistent as possible. An increase in weight will inevitably cause your buttocks to reshape, as this procedure does not prevent new fat cells from developing.

When Will I See My Brazilian Butt Lift Results?

You should be able to see immediate improvement in the size and shape of your buttocks following Brazilian Butt Lift surgery. However, it takes between three and four months for the swelling to resolve and reveal the final results. The effects of a Brazilian Butt Lift are considered permanent when performed by a surgeon who is experienced in the procedure. Over time, a BBL-enhanced butt is susceptible to the natural aging process. Significant weight loss can cause the buttocks to become smaller, but it should maintain its improved shape.

Can Men Undergo Brazilian Butt Lift?

This procedure has been used by women since its invention in the early 2000s. However, what you might not know is that the BBL can be done on men as well. Actually, it is becoming increasingly common for male patients to request this surgery. There are certain anatomical differences – for example, men tend to have less fat throughout the body.
